A Friday Night In Tel-Aviv

I'm probably not a 'party person'. It's a fact that I used to spend my weekends as a teenager mainly at home, watching telly (don't cry for me, I wasn't a sad girl).
Until something happened last friday, when I asked one of my friends what are his plans for that night. He replied with a link to a Facebook event. It looked just like another one of those party events, those parties that I never go to. "Oh, just leave it, Ruth", and suddenly I found myself in a cab on my way to Tel-Aviv.

We arrived to the central station in the city. For those who don't know and not familiar with this place, it is usually full of... well, hookers and junkies. hooray!
A lot of people go by and all of the colorful mess of this place shows itself in the most creepy way.
I see couples holding hands. My eyes focused on one couple, the girl had high heels on her feet, and she could barely walk in them. Her legs wiggled like two spaghetti strings. I usually don't judge people on the way they look, but I couldn't ignore the fact that she's about to fall down the floor in any second. I whispered to my friend "Hey, you know, if she can't walk with high heels, she doesn't have to! why girls do that to themselves? I mean, look at me! I don't walk with heels, and my outfit is still totally fine!". He stared at me like an alien for a second and then said "you know she's a prostitute, right?..."
I felt for a moment again like a 14 year old girl who didn't discover the world yet.

We had a walk, that took longer than we thought, until we arrived at the party. It was an old garage in Salame street. They called the place "The Gagarin". Don't know the meaning of it, and honestly I don't think I care (Gagarin as Yuri Gagarin? I'll pretend that I still don't care). I don't think anyone really care. They played Dubstep. Apparently it was a russian party! how cool (In a place called Gagarin? a party full of russian people?! how weird!...) :) I met a friend of mine who is a talented painter and has some beautiful dreadlocks and, well, is russian as well. It was so nice to meet her again!

I didn't realize what's going on, and we already found ourselves out, my friend and I, looking for somewhere else. After even a longer walk than before, we arrived to Alenby street. Not a scary street! just full of drunk people (just like me) hugging and being friends with other people they never met (hey! just like me!). "Are you tired?" my friend asked me. "depends", I answered.
He took me down the stairs, that seemed to lead to nowhere, until two bodyguards opened the doors.
This place used to be a little underground mall, but it didn't work out. They only kept the window shops with some vintage-y clutter of stuff, hanged some old posters (as far as I remember), and basically there was a weird 70's feeling around (and I don't even know how the 70's felt like since I was born only in the 90's, but still). Welcome to the Hipsters party! this party actually had a really good vibe! everyone looked really nice and friendly, I got to dance with people in the most stupid and awkward ways.
I felt sort of a release. Just let your body move in his on way. In some point, there was a girl with a black duckt tape, marking everyone, including me, with crosses. I think I just got crucified, 21st century style!... what?! haha!

I got to think about this night that I had a little bit. Is that it? Is that what everyone making a fuss about? Is this the typical "Tel-Avivic" nightlife?... I got to admit, everything sounds so much cooler when you tell the story, it always does. Don't understand me wrong, I had a lot of fun, but people who have those nights every week keep telling me that I miss great things if I don't go. We actually had a crazy night! we went to two parties, got drunk (well, only me), I met people I never got to meet before... but on the other hand, now I understand that I can have fun at home as well. Alone. Between the sheets. With "50 shades of grey" in one hand and the other hand on my crotch, although I never read this book, and never will, probably. :)

Now, to spice up this post a little bit, I thought it'll be funny to put here some photos of people who really know how to party! (or maybe not...?) Thanks to Embarrassing Nightclub Photos Of The Week!

Have a very wonderful week!
Ruth x
